Structure - what kind of government? South Korea is an electoral democracy led by a president, head of the state. The president is directly elected by plurality vote to a five-year term and cannot run for reelection. The head of government is the prime minister, who is appointed by the president and confirmed by the National Assembly.

Other interesting information?  All members of the National Assembly serve four-year terms. South Korea has both a Supreme Court and a Constitutional Court; the Supreme Court is the highest appeals court in the country, while the Constitutional Court generally limits its focus to constitutional disputes.

Due to its low unemployment rate, by the early 1990s South Korea realized it needed temporary labor to fill unskilled jobs that natives were becoming less and less willing to do.

The country has a strong per capita gross domestic product (GDP), low infant mortality rate and high life expectancy, and offers its citizens widespread access to quality health care and higher education.
